  • The Story of this Tea

Chen’s tea is the product of three generations of expertise, now reimagined by a bold innovator who believes survival lies in change. Shenteng Chen left city life to return to his family’s tea farm on Taiwan’s famous Ali Shan, with one condition: he could introduce fresh, sustainable farming methods. Despite initial reluctance from his family, he has become the area’s first tea farmer to adopt organic practices, and now in between seasons mentors aspiring young tea masters.

This pure expression of one of the world’s most renowned tea mountains has only been made possible by Chen’s pioneering & positive spirit. He enjoys the irony of his neighbours scrambling with pesticides and weeding while he relaxes on his terrace sipping tea, confident in the biodiversity he’s now cultivated to care for his plants.

Ali Shan, Taiwan

Grown at around 1,500m in the Ali Shan mountain range, tea master Chen Shengteng produces wonderful gaoshan (high mountain) oolong tea. At such high altitudes, the garden is surrounded by a constant mist that hydrates and enriches the tea plants. Expertly rolled and masterfully processed, the leaves encapsulate an enchanting, floral aroma and iconically creamy flavour.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I store JING tea?

All tea should be kept away from heat, light, moisture and odours. Exposure to these will cause the tea to deteriorate and lose flavour.

We recommend storing our loose teas in our beautiful Refill Caddies or its resealable ziplock bag, and store them in a cool dry place. Generally speaking, black teas and more heavily oxidized oolongs can be stored for a longer time than green, white and lightly oxidized oolong teas. Green teas, white teas and light oolong teas are best drunk within two to three months of opening.

However, they can also be stored in the fridge to maintain freshness for as long as possible. If you choose to store your green, white and light oolongs in the fridge, be careful to take the packs out a little in advance of making your tea so that they can reach room temperature. Opening a bag straight from the fridge will result in condensation on the inside of the pack, which when closed can then affect the quality of the tea inside.

How do you source your teas?

We don’t just believe that single origin and single garden teas taste better. We go direct to source to get them. Cutting out the middlemen in this way encourages transparency by increasing traceability. It also helps us to build strong relationships with producers, so we can better support them and their communities. We back this up with stringent responsible procurement processes, applicable to all of our suppliers. You can find out more here.
